IBM has provided a paper on its Infosphere Master Data Management Server that informs users how to best implement their product. According to the abstract, “While this document is an ‘InfoSphere MDM Server best practices’ document, many of the best practices presented are also more general master data management best practices. It presents considerations that apply in many, if not all master data management engagements, and highlights InfoSphere MDM Server features that were built for addressing those considerations.”
Infosphere “is often implemented as a mission critical system where its services are integrated and leveraged by front end channel systems, backend account systems, and as steps in key business processes within a business process management (BPM) environment. As such there are usually high demands on performance, scalability, and high availability.”
The abstract continues, “Like any mission critical system, performance must be a forethought and not an afterthought. There are always opportunities to tune a master data management solution once it has been implemented but the biggest gains you can make with performance are based on decisions and approaches made in the early stages of the project. The objective of this document is to communicate best practices to influence those decisions and approaches so that InfoSphere MDM Server is implemented for high performance. Every client implementing InfoSphere MDM Server should read this document.”
