A new blog post from Gwen Thomas of the Data Governance Institute takes a look at the importance of tending to data governance stakeholders from the very beginning. Thomas writes, “Morning: interviews with Data Governance professionals. Fascinating stuff. It was about them and their successes, not me. But of course, I’m always on the lookout for input on how I can do my job better. And a comment from a Data Governance Director hit home. When asked what she would have done differently, she said she wished she had collected more metrics from the beginning and had better understood the amount of time needed for stakeholder care activities.”
She continues, “Point taken; when it’s my job to prep people, I’ll remember this. Next hour, I had a call with the folks from OONdada, the vendor who licensed Data Governance Institute guidance and materials for a subscription-based Data Governance Teamspace called – you guessed it – Stakeholder Care Online. (You can see it at www.stakeholdercare.com/) Their news was cool – over 200 organizations have benefited from this. Nice! Not often you get a chance to provide contextual, targeted instructions at the exact time it’s needed. Next, catch-up on outstanding work items from my week. Lots of tasks have been checked off. What did the deferred items have in common? Yikes. Too many of them were examples of me not taking care of my own stakeholders in a timely manner. Mea culpa.”
