Dovel Technologies Announces

Dovel Technologies recently announced “the launch of, an application that pulls data from multiple sources, currently including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), to provide a holistic view of food-related recalls in the U.S. and Canada. Until now, there has not been a way to reconcile that data into a single view for wide distribution to the public. The FDA monitors and controls all food products except meat, poultry, and fish which are monitored and controlled by the USDA.”

It continues, “Canadian alert feeds were added because much of the food in Canada originates in the U.S. and CFIA’s feeds may provide alerts not currently being reported by U.S. agencies. Bringing in alerts from other countries, Canada being the first, recognizes the global supply chain involved in food production and packaging. The application uses public feeds from FDA, USDA, and CFIA and, using semantic technology, analyzes recall data. The application then translates the information into a user-friendly map interface accessible at Data about the feed is also published into the format.”

Dov Levy, president and chief technologist at Dovel stated, “With our knowledge of FDA and USDA and our expertise in SOA and semantic technology solutions, we knew there had to be a way to make this important information readily available to the public… We’re proud to offer this solution to the general public using data that was available but not easily viewed.”
