Skype, a division of Microsoft, is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Palo Alto, CA. According to the post, “This role offers a seasoned engineer, with a blend of Node.js, NoSql, distributed data platforms, and data analytics skills, the opportunity to help build a talented team and significantly impact making the firm more data-centric. Be a true partner in defining the solutions, have and develop business acumen and bring technical perspective in furthering the product and business. Estimate engineering effort; plan implementation of optimizing prototypes into production code and lead small execution teams. Deliver clear, well-communicated and complete design documents. Develop exemplary and thoroughly tested code for the most challenging aspects of the product or product sub-systems.”
The post continues, “The successful candidate should have 5+ years experience in large-scale software development, with at least 3 years in Big Data technologies (Hadoop, MongoDB, Map/Reduce, etc.). Have a strong cross-functional technical background, excellent written/oral communication skills, and a willingness and capacity to expand their leadership and technical skills. Ability to interface with multiple diverse stakeholders and an appreciation for working in an Operations environment is required. The candidate should be able to take initiative and work independently; however, collaboration, as part of a uniquely qualified team is required. Demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills, particularly those that apply to a “Big Data” environment. Deep understanding and related experience with Big Data technologies, Hadoop, MongoDB, NoSql, Map/Reduce.”
