We invite you to join us in this monthly DATAVERSITY webinar series, “Big Challenges with Data Modeling” hosted by Graeme Simsion. Join Graeme and two or more expert panelists each month to discuss their experiences in breaking through these specific data modeling challenges. Hear from experts in the field on how and where they came across these challenges and what resolution they found. Join them in the end for the Q&A portion to ask your own questions on the challenge topic of the month.

- In the Information Industry since it was called “data processing”, Dave Hay has been producing data models to support strategic and requirements planning for more than 25 years. As President of Essential Strategies, Inc. for 20 years, Dave has worked in a variety of industries, including, among others, banking, clinical pharmaceutical research, and all aspects of oil production and processing. Projects entailed various aspects of defining corporate information architecture, identifying requirements, and planning strategies for the implementation of new systems.

- Steve Hoberman is the most requested data modeling instructor in the world. He taught his first data modeling class in 1992 and has educated more than 10,000 people about data modeling and business intelligence techniques since then, spanning every continent except Africa and Antarctica. Steve is known for his entertaining, interactive teaching and lecture style (watch out for flying candy!), and organizations around the globe have brought Steve in to teach his Data Modeling Master Class, which is recognized as the most comprehensive data modeling course in the industry. Steve is the author of five books on data modeling, including the bestseller Data Modeling Made Simple. He is the founder of the Design Challenges group, inventor of the Data Model Scorecard®, and the recipient of the 2012 DAMA International Professional Achievement Award.
- Len Silverston, President, Universal Data Models
- Len Silverston is a best-selling author, consultant, and speaker with over 28 years of experience helping organizations integrate their information, systems, and people. Mr. Silverston is an internationally acclaimed expert and thought leader in the fields of data management, data modeling, data governance, and in the human dynamics of integrating information. He is well known for his work on “Universal Data Models”, or in other words, re-usable models that help develop higher quality data models in less time. He is the author of The Data Model Resource Book series (Volumes 1, 2, and 3), which describe hundreds of reusable data models. The volume 1 book was rated #12 on the Computer Literacy Best Seller List and his volume 1 and 2 books have been translated into Chinese and volume 3 into Korean. In 2009, he co-authored his latest work, “The Data Model Resource Book, Volume 3, Universal Patterns for Data Modeling”. Mr. Silverston has published many articles and has been a keynote speaker at many international conferences. He is the winner of the DAMA (Data Administration Management Association) International Professional Achievement Award for 2004 and the DAMA International Community Award for 2006. He received the highest speaker rating for the DAMA International 2009 conference for his talk on “What to Do When Data Professionals Disagree”. Mr. Silverston’s company, Universal Data Models, provides consulting, training, publications, and software to enable information integration.
About the Moderator
Graeme Simsion managed a successful business and systems consultancy for twenty years. During that time, he built a personal reputation as a thought leader in the data strategy field. He now draws on that experience to deliver industry and academic education in consulting skills, and to coach individuals and consulting teams. He has published widely, including two books on data modeling.
NOTE! This will be Graeme’s last month moderating the series as he moves on to full retirement from Data Modeling to focus on his new, already successful, career as a novelist. We are grateful for all he’s done in partnership with DATAVERSITY and wish him all the best in his new adventures.
