Rearden Commerce Gets Semantic with Adam Pease

Rearden Commerce has just added some semantic know-how to their arsenal with the hiring of Adam Pease, a scientist with over a decade of experience in semantic technologies. Rearden, a “next-generation eCommerce platform company” brought on Pease as their Senior Applied Scientist with the responsibility of leading Rearden’s “semantic technology and formal reasoning practices and technologies.”

Pease has worked for years to create the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO), the world’s largest free formal ontology. According to Pease, “Rearden Commerce represents an ideal opportunity to put SUMO into commercial practice, structuring data, improving decision making and search and ultimately having a real impact on how people interact with the web, making it a more highly relevant experience.”

The article states, “Prior to joining Rearden Commerce, Mr. Pease was founder and CEO of Articulate Software where he led research in ontology, linguistics and formal inference, and the development of SUMO, the Controlled English to Logic Translation (CELT) system, the Core Plan Representation (CPR), and the Sigma knowledge engineering environment. Prior to founding Articulate Software in 2003, he was Program Manager and Director of Knowledge Systems at Teknowledge.”
