A recent article reports, “More firms are considering moving data management to the cloud, but many may be failing to address security concerns. A recent study by Ovum found that adoption of cloud computing was up around 61 per cent last year, with firms expecting to move around 50 per cent of their data into the new technology within the next six to 24 months.”
“However,” the article continues, “statistics from McAfee and Brocade suggest that while firms have embraced the cloud for data management, many are just using the same security models for their virtual servers as their physical ones, Infosecurity reported. Tyler Carter, senior group manager for product marketing at McAfee said that moving to the new data management technology should not allow security measures to become less of a priority. He warned that fresh examples of data centres being compromised though lack of adequate network security arise every day. ‘Just because you transition that critical infrastructure from a physical environment to a virtual environment doesn’t mean that you can slacken your threat prevention effort,’ he told the source.”
