The University of Maryland Libraries is looking for a Metadata Librarian in Baltimore, MD. The post states, "Under the direction of the Head of Metadata Services, the Metadata Librarian implements, and supports metadata strategies associated with digital initiatives and projects. The incumbent may lead projects or serve as a member of a project team, providing metadata expertise. The Metadata Librarian collaborates with colleagues in Digital Systems and Stewardship and Special Collections and University Archives to evaluate the effectiveness of metadata for resource discovery and access. The incumbent recommends metadata schemas and develops workflows for metadata creation for collections to be digitized. Designs and provides documentation, training and consultation on creation and application of metadata to faculty and staff within Metadata Services and throughout the UMD Libraries."
Responsibilities of the position include: "Collaborates with stakeholders on metadata schemas for digital objects and datasets, develops workflows for digital object metadata creation, and is an active participant in the implementation of digital projects and metadata migrations. Creates and normalizes metadata, optimizing the interoperability of metadata across systems, and leverages metadata to increase discoverability. Coordinates efforts to provide bibliographic control and access to digital collections, including creating and enhancing authority records as part of the NACO and SACO programs. Identifies and designs schemas, ontologies, taxonomies, vocabularies, etc. for images, sound, video, text, realia, graphics, data, geospatial data, etc."
