About the Presentation

A Typical Scenario

Data Steward:
“We are chartered to work together with projects like yours so that projects define, integrate and use data in a common, consistent, and powerful  way across the enterprise.”

Project Manager (perhaps for an agile project):
“We completely support enterprise wide data governance. However, we have very tight deadlines and budgets so we’ll work together as long as you don’t impact our deadline dates, tasks, resources, or budgets in any way.”

How would you respond to this?

This 1 hour DGPO and DATAVERSITY webinar provides a framework for managing conflict and is geared towards scenarios that inevitably arise in data governance and stewardship programs. Len Silverston shares a 5 step process that he has used to successfully to navigate the above and other ‘inevitable’ data governance conflict management scenarios.

After sharing this framework, as well as data governance stories where this framework was applied, participants were asked if they could share difficult conflicts they have encountered and we how this framework can help address the scenarios provided.

Specifically, the presentation will cover:

  • 4 types of inevitable types of conflicts that arise in data governance
  • A 5 step approach to conflict management that the presenter has used successfully to resolved conflict in data governance
  • Case studies and examples of how this framework was applied
  • Sharing by participants of conflicts that have arisen and exploration of how we can apply this framework
