The Forbes Technology Council recently wrote in Forbes, “The Internet of Things (IoT) is only growing. Every month, more IoT products are hitting the market. However, sometimes IoT puts the burden on the customer to download separate apps and interact with each “thing” separately. So smart companies in this space are beginning to focus on standards and easier modes of integration. Below, a few members of Forbes Technology Council offer other smart suggestions of ways leaders in this space can make IoT more usable for current clients and new potential customers.”

Their list begins: “(1) Focus on Standards. If we have learned anything from the development of networks and protocols over the past three decades it should be that standards are not just important, they are essential. Smart, forward-thinking companies are already beginning to coalesce around standards like Z-Wave or ZigBee. By adopting standard protocols, product development teams can focus on strong feature sets rather than compatibility. – Leon Carelli, Locks Law Firm”

They continues, “(2) Allow for Easy Integration Into Other Apps. Many IoT products are allowing for other applications to interact with their application platforms and control the intended devices from other, more generic Apps. Working to achieve easy integration paths for companies producing IoT technologies is going to be a key element in the success story of these companies in the next three years. – Darwin Romero, Applaudo Studios. (3) Having an IoT ‘Router’. How about a device that acts like the main router and operating system? Each “thing” would interface with that device via a standard protocol. The device would then handle the interactions between individual “thing.” So instead of each “thing” connecting to multiple “things,” everything is now interacting with a single hub. For that to happen, we need open standards. – Ashley Saddul, Recruiter.com”
