Delaney Rebernik of Search Data Management reports that VoltDB and Actuate Corp. have teamed up “to offer what they call an all-in-one “big data” processing and analysis package. Under the new partnership, VoltDB’s namesake in-memory database will enable customers to handle transactions at ‘lightning speed,’ while Actuate’s ActuateOne business intelligence (BI) package will provide data analysis and visualization capabilities in real time, company officials said. The overarching goal of the partnership is to provide customers with a way to manage and analyze big data stores quickly and effectively, then ‘operationalize’ the resulting insights, Eric Sansonetti, VoltDB’s vice president of business relationships, said in an interview. VoltDB is ‘aimed specifically at the big data segment of the market,’ he said.”
Rebernik continues, “VoltDB software operates solely within memory using NewSQL and JavaScript semantics ‘to address real-time high volumes of [high] velocity data,’ such as the data that flows through online trading systems, digital ad exchanges and network optimization programs, Sansonetti explained. VoltDB formed and launched its enterprise data management offering about a year ago after company founders saw a need in the IT marketplace for an in-memory product that offers such features as ‘high availability, durability [and] replication,’ he said. The company is uniquely focused on ‘ultra-high throughput,’ said Bruce Reading, president and CEO at VoltDB. ‘Think of us as being wicked fast,’ he said. ‘We’re anywhere from 45 to 100 times faster than traditional databases’.”
