July 2016 DATAVERSITY Letter from the Editor

By on

We have a packed month in store for you this July. In addition to all our standard content, including a great lineup of webinars, we are hosting our second ever online conference as well as rolling out a series of announcements.

First, to give you an update on standard affairs. We were running a Data Modeling webinar series with Karen Lopez. Unfortunately, the timing didn’t work out for future events. We are sad to lose her, and most definitely thank her for all the fantastic presentations given over the last few years. This month, we are passing the torch to long-time DATAVERSITY speaker, Donna Burbank. We’ve been working with Donna to collaborate on some great topics to build into this revised series, Lessons in Data Modeling. They will remain the fourth Thursday of every month and this month Donna and guest speaker Nigel will be discussing “Why a Data Model is an Important Part of Your Data Strategy.”

Our first online conference was in January of this year on the topic of Data Governance. Registrations were fantastic, but had some learning lessons with the platform we were using to host the event. The primary feedback we got from attendees was great content and speakers, but stop trying to get fancy with the platform. We definitely listened.

For our second online conference, we’ll be covering the topic of Smart Data on Wednesday, July 13. Another great lineup of topics and speakers based on all the data we have and all the analytics we ran determining where our readers really want more education. We’ve gone back to our tried and true webinar platform and our well-established webinar process to set up production. We are very excited about this second event and again have seen an incredible response from the community.

Following our Smart Data Online event, we’ll be announcing several more events. We’ll first be sending out a call for presentations for our Smart Data face-to-face conference January 31 – February 1, 2017, in San Francisco. Not long after that, we’ll be asking everyone to save the date for our third and last online conference in October of 2016 covering the topic of NoSQL.

Another announcement we’ll be rolling out in July is in regards to our new Training Center. We’re very excited about this new level of education offering to the community. We’ve already rolled out two Learning Plans, each containing several Courses. One Learning Plan on Data Governance and the other on Data Quality. You can buy the package together for each topic, or select individual courses based on your training needs. This month we’ll be adding a Learning Plan complete with six individual courses on Metadata.

So keep your eyes peeled for these great events and announcements in addition to our standard educational programs. Hope to see you online.
