By on

According to a recent press release, “RANK Software, a leading artificial intelligence (AI)-based threat detection company and the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, a global leader in mathematics research hosted by the University of Toronto, announced today a joint collaboration in cyber security research focused on automated detection mechanisms. The flagship project of this new partnership between RANK Software and the Institute’s new Centre for Quantitative Analysis and Modelling (Fields-CQAM) will focus on using machine learning to develop and improve cyber security detection mechanisms. The expected outputs of the study will contribute to the development of new intellectual property and research that will advance the field of cyber security analytics, with preliminary results expected by late 2018.”

Huaxiong Huang, Director of Fields-CQAM, commented, “Since 1992, the Fields Institute has been focused on promoting mathematical activity in Canada and expanding the application of mathematics across sectors… Our new Centre for Quantitative Analysis and Modelling expands on this directive, collaborating with innovative and ambitious companies to disseminate mathematics research for the benefit of the private and public sectors. As such we are pleased to partner with RANK Software to explore how the next generation of machine learning and artificial intelligence can help strengthen resilience to cyber-attacks.”

The release goes on, “As the frequency and potential impact of cybercrime increases, such collaborative research is critical to ensure that organizations can adapt to this fast-changing threat landscape. ‘Gartner forecasts that 20.4 billion connected things will be in use by 2020. More devices connected to the network makes security scalability a critical capability for enterprises as they plan today for tomorrow’s challenges,’ said Rick Costanzo, CEO of RANK Software. ‘This project with the Fields-CQAM will provide extensive data and knowledge to help us continue to drive innovation in the cybersecurity space, especially where early detection and resolution have significant impacts on businesses, consumers, finances and reputation’.”
