DATAVERSITY™ recently interviewed Gauthier Vasseur, the COO at Semarchy. Semarchy are the developers of the Semarchy Convergence platform, a system created to give full 360 degree, evolving views across of an enterprise’s entire master data domains, with detailed data quality and governance support.
Semarchy are Silver Sponsors at the Enterprise Data World 2014 Conference in Austin, Texas from April 27 – May 1, 2014.
The Sponsor Spotlight Column (and its parallel venture the Speaker Spotlight Column) is an ongoing project that focuses on highlighting several of the central issues represented at the many Data Management conferences produced by DATAVERSITY.
The primary emphasis of the interview was to question Gauthier Vasseur and Semarchy on their current work and history within the industry, with particular importance on the products and/or services being highlighted at the upcoming conference:
DATAVERSITY (DV): What’s your company elevator pitch? Why should a businessperson care about the solution you provide?
Semarchy: We do Evolutionary MDM. In a nutshell, Master Data Management that is non-intrusive, agile and safe. Our clients expect Data Governance and MDM projects to happen fast and iteratively fit their evolving needs.
DV: What will you be highlighting at EDW14?
Semarchy: At EDW14, we’ll be highlighting our agile approach to MDM. We will explain how to start small and iterate as you grow. We will also feature our new Convergence Pulse product that provides:
- Dashboards to measure the value of your MDM initiative
- Profiling solutions to assess your data source qualities
DV: What’s the unique selling proposition of your product or service versus your competitors? What do you do that nobody else does (or better than anyone else)?
Semarchy: Semarchy installs in less than 15 minutes and show results the first week. I guess no other competitor can claim that. Our technology also includes a unique integration of all Master Data Management tools in a single platform: modeling, quality, security, match-merge, workflows, user interfaces, web services, etc.
DV: Why should EDW14 attendees stop by your booth this year?
Semarchy: EDW14 attendees should definitely stop by Semarchy booth not only to see Evolutionary MDM live in action but also to speak with our experts and clients.
DV: What do you see as the most significant trend happening at this time within the Data Management industry?
Semarchy: There is a convergence of several technologies, like Cloud, Big Data, and mobile devices. Individually, they are great. Combined, they simply open new possibilities for managing data.
DV: How is such a trend going to affect your particular business focus? How does your product/service address that trend?
Semarchy: Business users expect for their data projects the same agility and flexibility that they have in infrastructures with Cloud, Big Data and mobile devices. We address this in our products and allow MDM initiatives to adapt and scale at the speed of business, on premise or on the Cloud.
DV: What is the biggest challenge your customers are facing when it comes to Data Management?
Semarchy: Their biggest challenge is to get started. Because of the lack of strong executive sponsorship, because of the fear of the unknown in MDM, because of budget and project durations, because of the lack of a kick-starter after governance design.
DV: How are you as a company working to address that challenge?
Semarchy: We show them that Data Management can be simple, fast and fun while remaining safe and governed. Usually, we run a Proof of Value (POV), to solve one of their data problems with their own data. We are able to show measurable results in less than a week. Our customers feel safer with their project, and feel ready to speak with these results to their sponsors.
DV: What’s the most exciting thing currently in your product or development pipeline that customers can look forward to in the near future?
Semarchy: We just released Convergence Pulse for data profiling and Master Data Management dashboards. Customers are very excited to try this new component to measure the success of their MDM. They are also pleased by the improvements that we make in every release our Data Stewardship user interface. In the future, we are planning… well, you’ll have to come to our booth to hear more!
DV: What’s your favorite quote on “Data” or “Data Management?”
Semarchy: Data Management is not a project, not an initiative, not a journey. It is an Odyssey!
