A recent press release out of Capita reports, “Technology is evolving at a relentless pace, leading to new innovations and trends, many of which have the ability to fundamentally change the way we do business. Or so the analysts say. But what is actually happening ‘on the ground’. What do those responsible for the direction of IT strategy honestly think about trends such as cloud, IoT and Big Data – and do they have the skills internally to deliver? Trends vs Technologies was commissioned by Capita to examine the disconnect between technological vision and the reality of implementation. It reveals a clear gap between the relevance of trends – such as IoT, Cloud and Big Data – and a business’s ability to identify the opportunity, and implement and manage the associated technology.”

The release continues, “Key findings include: (1) 88% agree financial gains can be made by responding to IT trends within their business. (2) Only 39% are implementing Big Data strategies within their business, despite 90% believing the trend is relevant. (3) More businesses believe Artificial Intelligence is relevant to their industry than wearable technology (50% vs 46%). (4) 16% businesses still don’t believe Cloud is relevant to their industry. (5) Security remains the biggest challenge to IoT adoption, cited by 31% of respondents. The full report can be downloaded here.”
