Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company’s Finance Data Governance journey began with a Data Management focused organization, concentrated on processing changes and production support. Through a multi-year Process Optimization effort, the team addressed pain points in Stewardship, Data Quality, and Change Management, resulting in a mature Finance Data Governance organization. The team provides enhanced impact analysis and consulting for their business partners and supports cross-functional efforts. There is also a dedicated Data Quality Team and an engaged Data Steward Network. The vision for the future of Finance Data Governance supports Nationwide’s overall strategy.

About the Speakers

Michael Randall

Director of the Data Integration and Quality Team in Finance Data Governance (FDG), Nationwide Insurance Mutual

Michael Randall is the Director of the Data Integration and Quality team in Finance Data Governance (FDG) at Nationwide. Michael’s tenure with FDG includes leading efforts to implement a business driven reference data tool, with workflow, to streamline the change request process. He recently led the effort to transform Finance Data Governance to align with industry best practices, which included the team charter, data stewards organization, data quality and change management, as well as providing thought leadership to reorganize the team around the core functions. He is currently leading efforts to implement a data quality tool to further support the transformational efforts. Michael has been a Nationwide associate for 24 years, with 6 1/2 years as a leader in FDG. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Tonya Walker

Associate Vice President of the Finance Data Governance (FDG) Team, Nationwide Insurance Mutual

Tonya Walker is the Associate Vice President of the Finance Data Governance (FDG) team at Nationwide. Under Tonya’s leadership, the FDG team has undergone a transformation creating a renewed sense of direction which was formalized by rewriting the team’s charter and reorganizing the team to align around the core functions. Through an established framework, standards, and procedures Finance Data Governance drives consistency, comparability, and standardization amongst the creation, translation, and movement of Finance data to instill confidence in the information produced. Tonya has been a Nationwide associate for 24 years and has served as the leader of Finance Data Governance for 4 years. Tonya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Ashland University.

Julie Gribben

Consultant on the Finance Data Governance (FDG) Team, Nationwide Insurance Mutual

Julie Gribben is a Consultant on the Finance Data Governance (FDG) Team at Nationwide. Her primary responsibilities consist of: 1) educating Finance associates on the role of Data Governance, including onboarding of new associates, data stewards, and FDG Board members; 2) defining, updating, and enforcing governance standards and reporting metrics to measure compliance; 3) serving as the liaison to the Finance Data Steward organization and FDG Board, including leading a group of data stewards to define and update Finance terms in the Enterprise Business Glossary; 4) serving as the central collection point for FDG dashboard metrics and facilitating the implementation of enhancements to the existing scorecard; and 5) actively driving and supporting Process Optimization initiatives. Julie has been a Nationwide associate for over 20 years. Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican College and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt.
