About the Webinar

Barbara Deemer is the Chief Data Steward and co-lead of Navient Corporation’s award-winning Data Governance Program.  Barbara began her career with Navient (formerly Sallie Mae) in 1982 as a payroll clerk.  She held multiple positions with increasing responsibility in several divisions of the company prior to become the Controller of the Fortune 500 company in 2000.  She retired in 2003 and came back to the company as a consultant to work on data issues in 2005 and became the Chief Data Steward in 2009.  Barbara will present some of the critical success factors to building and sustaining an enterprise Data Governance Program as well as lessons learned in her role as the Chief Data Steward.

About the Speaker

Barbara Deemer is a Vice President, Finance and Chief Data Steward at Navient. In that role she leads the Data Governance Council which is comprised of representatives from all Lines of Business and the Analytic Data Governance Council.  Barbara has 30 years of experience in the Accounting, Finance and Servicing areas. She was the Controller of the Company from 2000 to 2003 until she took an extended leave of absence. She returned to Sallie Mae in 2005 to work on data improvement projects and is now in her current role at Navient focusing on Data Governance and Data Quality and Analytics Data Governance

Barbara graduated in 1982 from George Washington University with a BA in Accounting.
