About the Webinar

There are different ways to connect people with data stewardship responsibilities. You can assign people to be data stewards, identify people as data stewards or recognize people as data stewards. These approaches vary in several ways.

Join Bob Seiner for this month’s installment of the RWDG webinar series where he will compare and contrast three distinct approaches to data stewardship. The approach you select and follow will heavily influence how data governance results will be achieved.

In this webinar Bob will discuss:

  • Three approaches to data stewardship
  • The influence of each approach on program results
  • Factors to assist in the selection of the approach to follow
  • Obstacles to being successful with each approach
  • Benefits of following each approach

Stewardship programs can take a variety of designs and implementation. For years now I no longer call anyone a Data Steward or Data Custodian. Organizations have to adopt stewardship of their data and the information that it delivers. With that I have moved my focus of stewardship to three different instances; Business Information Stewards, Information Asset Stewards and Technology Stewards.
Data Stewards and Data Custodians are old terms that need to be retired and the new model of stewardship across the organization adopted. The term Data Custodian is demeaning. During my consulting days I surveyed clients regarding Data Stewards and Data Custodians vs. Business Information Stewards, Information Asset Stewards and Technology Stewards. Feed back from my clients taking the survey resulted in – 93% preferred the 3 levels of Stewardship outlined in my stewardship program over the Data Steward and Data Custodian names.
Does your program address the three disciplines of Stewardship?
